Consultation/Provider Review — What to Expect

Updated this week

Once you submit your intake, a licensed provider in your state reviews your file. Here's what that process looks like.

Who reviews your file?

A licensed clinician — physician, nurse practitioner, or physician assistant — credentialed in your state. Not an algorithm. Not an offshore team. A real provider who reviews your health history and makes an independent clinical judgment.

Async vs. sync visits — what's the difference?

  • Most RespondWell visits are asynchronous: your provider reviews your intake, makes a determination, and communicates through secure messaging — no scheduled call required. Fast, flexible, works around your schedule.

  • Some states require a synchronous visit — a real-time interaction (phone or video) between you and your provider — before a prescription can be issued. If your state requires it, you'll be prompted to schedule after completing intake.

  • TRT (testosterone replacement therapy) requires a synchronous visit in every state, regardless of where you're located. Within 4-business hours after checkout, you'll automatically receive a lab order to take to your local Quest or LabCorp location. Once lab results are in, you'll schedule a brief phone or video call with your provider as part of the process – oftentimes, (if you're available), we can get this done the same day results come back.

Sync visits naturally add some time to your review. Most are completed within 24 hours of scheduling.

How long does it take?

For async visits, average turnaround is approximately 4 hours during business hours. Sync visits depend on scheduling availability. Complex cases or incomplete intakes may take longer. You'll receive a notification when your review is complete.

What are the possible outcomes?

  • Approved: Your provider determines you're eligible and issues a prescription. Processing begins immediately.

  • Additional information needed: Your provider will message you through the portal. Respond promptly to avoid further delays.

  • Not eligible: Your provider may determine that treatment isn't appropriate for you at this time, or that you need in-person evaluation first. This is a clinical decision — RespondWell does not override it.

    • If your prescription is denied, you will automatically be refunded.

No prescription is guaranteed. Eligibility is determined entirely by your provider's professional judgment. If you have questions about why you were not approved, message your care team.

What if I disagree with my provider's decision?

You can request clarification through secure messaging. You also have the right to seek care from any other provider or in-person clinic at any time.
