Understanding Your Medications

Updated this week

What is a compounded medication?

Many medications dispensed through RespondWell are compounded.

Compounded medications are custom-prepared by licensed pharmacists at FDA-registered compounding pharmacies, based on your specific prescription. The pharmacies we work with operate under USP standards and are FDA-registered. All medications are prepared in FDA-registered 503A/503B compounding facilities in compliance with cGMP regulations, with robust quality assurance practices in place.

The active pharmaceutical ingredients used in our compounded medications conform to USP (United States Pharmacopeia) monograph standards — the same quality benchmarks that govern pharmaceutical-grade ingredients across the industry. Your provider prescribes the dose and formulation; the pharmacy prepares it specifically for you.

Compounded medications are not reviewed or approved by the FDA as finished products. This is standard for compounded medications across the healthcare systemeoc. FDA guidelines applies to the source ingredients, not the compounded product itself.

If you do not want a compounded medication, discuss that with your provider through secure messaging before your prescription is processed.

What's in my shipment?

Your shipment includes your medication plus all supplies needed to administer it. For injectable medications, this typically includes syringes, needles, and alcohol swabs. Dosing instructions are included with your prescription.

Where do I find my dosing instructions?

Your specific dose and administration schedule are set by your provider and included with your shipment. If you have questions about your dose, message your care team — do not adjust your dose without provider guidance.

What if my medication looks different than expected?

Compounded medications are prepared to your prescription by our pharmacy partners, and packaging or presentation may differ from product images on our website. Prescriptions are dynamically routed to our trusted pharmacy network based on factors like your state (pharmacy licensing), stock availability, and fulfillment speed — so the specific pharmacy and packaging may vary.

If something seems genuinely wrong — unexpected volume, unusual color or clarity, damaged packaging — do not use it. Contact support and your pharmacy immediately.

Storing your medication:

Follow the storage instructions included with your shipment. Most injectable GLP-1 medications require refrigeration. TRT medications have specific storage requirements listed on your pharmacy label.
